MEDIA TRAINING

Training of managers and spokespeople for various organisations is becoming more important as Media outlets expand in number and type. Working with varoius training agencies JNV supplies a genuine “Broadcast” type experience, so the delegates are not overwhelmed by the the experience when they have to do it for real.

In conjunction with Mark Brealey Communications, JNV film face to face interviews, plus a realistic mock up of a 2-way “remote” interview, as is commonly met by our clients. The delegates are then provided with a DVD of their days efforts, either individually, or including the entire group. (The full training incorporates print and radio journalism as well - the radio interviews are also included on the DVD)

Clients include many local councils and NHS Trusts.

Working with other PR agencies I have assisted in training various public bodies and private firms, mainly in the Legal & Financial sectors.

COMMUNICATIONS

Kirklees NHS Trust wanted to investigate young people’s attitude to alcohol. Rather than just produce a written report, they engaged The Campaign Company to produce a video. Whilst TCC North organised the venue and pre-production, they handed over filming, editing and video production to JNV. This required some technical skill, as the chosen venue for interviews was a Nightclub o n a Friday night!

The professionally shot & finished DVD was very well received by the client.

Rather than use a self operated domestic camcorder, legal firm DLA Piper engaged events company MCL to record a 1-day training seminar and produce a DVD for use in future internal training. MCL engaged JNV for the entire filming, editing & video production. A fully authored DVD was provided, allowing future users to easily access the relevant sections. Using professional quality recording & editing allowed the video to be comfortably viewed & listened to, thus greatly enhancing its value as a training aid.

EVENTS

Sheffield Samaritans branch wanted a recording of a dramatic presentation they were giving at their annual conference, for showing to other groups within the organisation. As they had no experience with video, JNV organised the entire video production, ending with a properly edited programme which could be watched and enjoyed by those members not lucky enough to have experienced the original performance.

The Singing Farmers of Yorkshire perform concerts throughout the region raising funds for RABI, a farming charity. They requested JNV record one of their concerts and produce a saleable video, on a minimal budget. Despite several technical challenges on the day, (not least being that only about one hour of setup was available, as the venue was a working cattle market!) an enjoyable video was edited together.

LEGAL VIDEO EVIDENCE

In a court case involving the HSE, it was necessary to clearly demonstrate the safety measures incorporated into a manufacturing process. Rather than rely on oral or photographic evidence, and to avoid the court having to visit the site, JNV was commissioned by solicitors DWF LLP to film the entire process, and produce a video with voiceover, clearly explaining the process.

JNV has also been engaged to produce video and still pictures showing the physical layout of alleged crime scenes, to give the court a better understanding of the practicalities which would have been involved in committing the alleged crime, or show the actual view witnesses would have had.

BACKUP RECORDING, e-mailed rushes & standards conversion

Not really production, but: I have many regional & international clients, who usually require the recorded rushes be posted on or couriered after filming has finished. By using our edit suite, a safety copy can be made, in case of postal loss. This renders a potentially disastrous loss into a small inconvenience.

Meanwhile,having made a copy, the client can be e-mailed a compressed, reduced quality version with burned-in timecode, allowing the edit to proceed offline whilst waiting for the tape to arrive.

Talking of International clients, should it be required, any video stored on our edit suite can be supplied as an NTSC format DVD, or converted from 16:9 widescreen to 4:3, or vice-versa.

Raisthorpe Flyers wanted to promote their simulated game shooting days, and engaged JNV, in conjunction with Chris Berry Media Services, to produce a ten minute DVD. CBMS produced and organised the video, whilst all filming, editing and DVD authoring was done by JNV. Click on the image to see the video on the client’s website.

Following my interest in Motorcycles, I have made videos of various events, from the BMF Rally back in 1994, to the annual national Norton Day for the NOC in 2008. Filmed, Directed & Edited by JNV.

Currently, JNV is producing a “How to” engine maintenance video for the NOC.
