Music & Events

 MUSIC

When I was at school & uni, I used to hang around with bands. Yes, that’s right, I was a drummer!. But mainly, I was the useful guy who could mend the kit and hump it around in my car. I’d thought maybe I’d become a roadie or something, (I wasn’t a very good drummer...) but then I went and got a proper (?) job in broadcasting and hence discovered camerawork. But the love of live music has never left, and working camera at a rock concert is the nearest I come to the performance buzz from playing in my old band.

In return, I believe I have musical sympathy (I wasn’t that bad a drummer....) which I think is vital for good music camerawork, whether it’s the Halle Orchestra or the Kaiser Chiefs.

It also pulls together many of my skills and interests, from school bands, through multi-skilled operations & engineering at BBC TV, to working on many and various Conferences and Events as a freelance cameraman & technician. It helps that I still enjoy travelling, and working with the whole backstage crew.

In recent years I have worked on the big screens at the Carling and O2 festivals in Leeds, and the Summer Nights tours throughout the UK, and have worked with various bands, big & small, over the years, and, as you may gather from the above, I am always keen to do more.

So, whether it’s a major stadium rock tour, or local choir in the village hall, do call me!

 EVENTS

Ok, I won’t pretend that Event camerawork is as exciting as rock concerts, BUT, I have a lot of experience of conferences, product launches, roadshows etc. As a multi-skilled technician, I am familiar with rigging & de-rigging AV equipment, including projectors, screens, lighting & audio kit. I am also used to working in the conditions, and for the hours which such events require. And I still enjoy it! So, again, whether it’s a month long roadshow, a big one-off “white-gloves” event with ready rigged cameras, or being a rigging/video-tech without even touching a camera, or being a roving single camera recording to tape and possibly editing a final DVD of the event, I’ve been there, done it, an am very happy to do it again!

If you have an event you want recording and packaging to DVD, videotape or for the Web, see my “Production” pages.

Here’s some stuff I’ve worked on....
